As Independence Day is celebrated across our nation this weekend, Sherwood Baptist Church moves from making movies to reaching out to their neighbors throughout southwest Georgia.
Sherwood is once again hosting its annual Freedom Festival at the Sherwood Sports Park, the community complex that has been funded by Sherwood Pictures since the success of Facing the Giants.
For Senior Pastor (and executive producer) Michael Catt, it all works together. In a recent story in the alumni magazine for Dr. Catt’s alma mater (Mississippi College), he talks about the role of a church in touching lives … both around the world and in Albany, Georgia.
“Our outreach begins here, at home. If we lose Jerusalem to get the world, we have not done much. It would be very sad if all we were known for is making movies. We never forget that we are a church with a production company, not a production company with a church.
“Success for us is when God is pleased with what we do, when we hear stories of people being saved and lives being changed. The church dies when it tries to reach people where they should be. Instead, you have to go where they are. Whoever wants the next generation the most will get them.”
We hope all generations have a great Fourth of July!

I just wanted to thank you all for what you are doing. This is such a great ministry to the world. You’re teaching what the Bible says and applying it to the culture of our lives now to mean something even more special. All over the world, people are watching these films you have made. And I just want to thank you for being such a great witness. I pray that this film will show the true Message and that many will be saved through this. Thank you, Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Loved all the other movies that you all have done, I am excited for this next one too. So enjoy what each movies message is about and that God gets ALL the glory!!!! Keep up the good work for the Lord!
In Christ,
Rhonda
I can’t wait for this movie to come out. I grew up without my father and continued the trend and unfortunately my children grew up without their fathers. Now my son is a father and not being responsible, I can’t wait for him to see this movie. I just know that it is going to have a profound effect on, not just my son, but many like him and daughters too. It is time for Dads to step up and lead the family. Thank you for all you do. I will be praying for this film and all involved.
